Eleaf mods are vape devices designed to power tanks using a standard 510 connection, which means they’re compatible with most vape tanks on the market. You’re not locked into one system, which is one of the main reasons people go for a mod over a pod kit.

The Eleaf iStick range is probably the most recognised, with models like the iStick Power series and smaller iStick devices still being widely used. They’ve been around a while and tend to focus on ease of use rather than packing in loads of extra features.

Built-In Battery vs External Battery Mods

Eleaf offer both built-in battery mods and external battery mods, though a lot of their newer devices lean towards internal batteries.

Built-in battery mods are more straightforward. You just charge them via USB and that’s it, no need to carry spare batteries. Some of the larger iStick models go up to around 5000mAh, which is enough for a full day for most people, sometimes longer depending how you use it.

External battery mods, usually using 18650 batteries, give you a bit more flexibility. You can swap batteries out instead of waiting for the device to charge, which can be useful if you’re using higher wattages or vaping more often.

Power Output and How They Perform

Eleaf mods cover a fairly wide wattage range, usually starting around 20W and going up to around 75W or 80W on most models.

As a rough idea:

  • Lower wattage devices (20–30W) are better suited to MTL tanks
  • Mid-range mods (40–80W) can handle both MTL and DTL setups
  • Higher output setups are more suited to sub-ohm tanks

Some Eleaf mods also include simple smart modes that adjust the wattage automatically based on the coil you’re using. It’s not perfect, but it helps if you’re not too sure what settings to run.

Battery Capacity and Usage

Battery size varies quite a bit across the Eleaf range. Smaller mods might sit around 1000–2000mAh, while larger ones like the iStick Power can go up to 5000mAh.

In general:

  • Smaller batteries are easier to carry but need charging more often
  • Larger batteries last longer but make the device a bit bulkier

If you’re using your vape throughout the day, a higher capacity battery usually makes things easier, otherwise you’ll end up charging it more than you’d like.

Tank Compatibility and 510 Connection

One of the main advantages of Eleaf mods is the 510 connection. This means you can pair them with a wide range of vape tanks, whether that’s an MTL tank or a sub-ohm tank.

You just need to make sure the wattage range of the mod matches the coil you’re using in your tank. As long as that lines up, most setups will work without any issues.

Who Eleaf Mods Are Best For

Eleaf mods are generally aimed at people who want something simple and reliable without too much to figure out. They’re often used by people moving on from pod kits, or anyone that prefers a bit more control over power settings.

They tend to suit:

  • MTL users looking for a compact vape mod
  • People wanting a reliable adjustable device
  • Anyone after a longer battery life compared to smaller pod kits

They're not the most advanced devices out there, but they cover the basics well, which is probably why they're still widely used.
