What Are Drip Tips and Vape Mouthpieces?

Drip tips, or vape mouthpieces, are the removable pieces that go on top of your tank. Every time you take a puff, it’s the part you’re using, so even though it’s small, it does make a difference to how things feel.

Most of them just push into place and can be swapped out in a few seconds.

510 vs 810 Drip Tips

There are two main sizes you’ll come across, 510 and 810 drip tips.

  • 510 drip tips are narrower and usually used for MTL setups
  • 810 drip tips are wider and more common on sub-ohm tanks

They're not interchangeable unless your tank supports both, so it's worth checking before buying. Easy mistake to make otherwise.

Materials and Feel

Drip tips come in a few different materials. It’s not massively technical, but it does change how they feel slightly.

  • Plastic or resin ones are lightweight and stay fairly cool
  • Metal ones feel a bit more solid but can warm up over time
  • You'll also see glass and other styles depending on the design

Most of it just comes down to preference really.

Do Drip Tips Actually Make a Difference?

They can change the airflow slightly. A narrower tip gives a tighter draw, while a wider one feels more open.

It’s not a huge difference, but if something feels a bit off with your setup, swapping the mouthpiece is one of the easier things to try.

Compatibility and Replacements

Most vape drip tips are designed to fit standard connections, but not all tanks use the same size. Some devices also have fixed mouthpieces that can’t be changed.

They’re easy enough to replace though, and since they’re fairly cheap, a lot of people just keep a spare around.
