KangerTech Vape Tanks & Clearomisers

KangerTech is one of those names that's closely tied to the earlier generations of refillable vaping.

Long before modern pod kits became dominant, KangerTech produced compact clearomisers and tanks designed to screw onto simple pen-style batteries. The formula was uncomplicated: fill the tank, fit it to the battery and replace the coil when necessary.

Our current KangerTech tank range stays very much within that classic format.

You'll find:

  • KangerTech EVOD Tank
  • KangerTech EVOD 2 Clearomiser
  • KangerTech CE4 Clearomiser

These are all relatively compact, low-powered tanks intended primarily for MTL use rather than high-wattage sub-ohm vaping.

Which KangerTech Tanks Do We Stock?

KangerTech Tank General Type Coil Design Filling Style Typical Use
EVOD Refillable clearomiser Replaceable coil Bottom-fill MTL
EVOD 2 Refillable clearomiser Replaceable dual coil Bottom-fill MTL
CE4 Disposable clearomiser Fixed internal coil Top-fill MTL

The biggest difference is maintenance.

EVOD and EVOD 2 tanks are designed around replaceable coil heads, whereas a CE4 is treated as a complete consumable clearomiser.

KangerTech EVOD Tank

The KangerTech EVOD Tank is one of the brand's most recognisable older clearomiser designs.

Its narrow cylindrical shape was made to sit neatly on eGo and EVOD-style batteries, creating the traditional pen-shaped vape setup that became extremely common before modern pod kits arrived.

The EVOD uses a bottom-coil layout, placing the heating element towards the base of the tank rather than near the mouthpiece.

That design helps keep the wick closer to the e-liquid held in the reservoir.

What Makes the EVOD Tank Simple to Use?

The EVOD doesn't rely on screens, adjustable airflow or complex settings.

Its appeal is largely down to that simplicity.

  1. Unscrew the base.
  2. Fill the tank.
  3. Reattach the base and coil.
  4. Screw the clearomiser onto a compatible battery.
  5. Replace the coil when performance deteriorates.

There's very little else to configure.

That makes the EVOD especially relevant to users who still prefer straightforward pen-style hardware.

KangerTech EVOD 2 Clearomiser

The KangerTech EVOD 2 follows the same basic format but uses a bottom dual-coil system.

Our current listing specifies a 1.6ml capacity, bottom filling, fixed MTL airflow and a removable 510-style drip tip.

It comes fitted with a 1.5Ω dual coil, with compatible dual-coil heads also available in other resistance options such as 1.8Ω.

The result is still very much a traditional low-powered MTL setup rather than anything designed for large vapour production.

EVOD vs EVOD 2

The two tanks look broadly similar, but the EVOD 2 introduced a dual-coil configuration.

Feature EVOD EVOD 2
Format Pen-style clearomiser Pen-style clearomiser
Filling Bottom-fill Bottom-fill
Coil Replaceable Replaceable dual coil
Draw MTL MTL
Airflow Fixed Fixed
Main Use Low-powered refillable setup Low-powered refillable setup

The EVOD 2 therefore sits as a slightly more developed version of the same basic design philosophy rather than a completely different type of tank.

KangerTech CE4 Clearomiser

The KangerTech CE4 Clearomiser is even simpler.

Unlike EVOD tanks that are built around replaceable coil heads, the CE4 is generally used as a complete disposable clearomiser.

Once the internal coil becomes worn or performance drops significantly, the whole clearomiser is replaced.

This format became extremely common on early eGo-style vape kits because it required very little maintenance.

What Is a CE4 Clearomiser?

A CE4 combines:

  • E-liquid reservoir
  • Heating coil
  • Wick
  • Mouthpiece
  • Threaded battery connection

into one compact unit.

You refill the reservoir while it remains usable, but there's no need to dismantle it to install a replacement coil.

That simplicity makes the CE4 one of the most straightforward refillable tank formats around.

EVOD vs CE4

The main difference is whether the heating coil is independently replaceable.

Feature EVOD / EVOD 2 CE4
Refillable Yes Yes
Replaceable Coil Yes No
Replace Whole Tank When Coil Wears Out Usually no Yes
Main Style MTL MTL
Suitable for Pen Batteries Yes Yes
Maintenance Low Very low

If you want the simplest possible setup, CE4 has fewer individual parts to manage.

If you prefer replacing only the worn heating element, EVOD-style tanks are more practical.

What Is a Clearomiser?

The term clearomiser is most commonly associated with older refillable vape tanks.

It describes a tank with a transparent or semi-transparent reservoir that allows you to see the remaining e-liquid.

In practical terms, clearomisers perform the same fundamental job as modern vape tanks and pods:

  • Store e-liquid
  • Feed liquid into the wick
  • Hold the coil
  • Connect to the battery
  • Deliver vapour through a mouthpiece

The terminology has simply changed as vape hardware has evolved.

Who Are KangerTech Tanks Best Suited To?

These tanks make the most sense for people using older or traditional pen-style vaping hardware.

They can be particularly useful if you:

  • Still use an eGo-style battery
  • Own an EVOD battery
  • Prefer pen-shaped devices
  • Want a simple MTL setup
  • Need replacement hardware for an older vape
  • Don't need adjustable airflow or high wattage
  • Prefer traditional clearomisers to modern pods

They're very different from current sub-ohm tanks and high-powered pod mods.

Mouth-to-Lung Vaping

The KangerTech tanks in our current range are primarily intended for MTL, or mouth-to-lung vaping.

MTL means drawing vapour into the mouth first before inhaling.

Typical characteristics include:

  • Tighter draw
  • Lower power
  • Moderate vapour production
  • Higher-resistance coils
  • Smaller tanks
  • Good compatibility with thinner e-liquids

This is much closer to the behaviour of a classic vape pen than a large sub-ohm tank.

What E-Liquid Should You Use?

Traditional KangerTech clearomisers are generally better suited to thinner e-liquids than modern high-powered sub-ohm tanks.

A 50VG/50PG liquid is a sensible starting point for many EVOD and CE4-style setups.

Common choices include:

  • 50/50 freebase e-liquid
  • Nicotine salt e-liquid
  • Standard 10ml liquids

Very thick high-VG e-liquids may wick less effectively through smaller older-style coil heads.

KangerTech Tanks and Nic Salts

Higher-resistance KangerTech clearomisers can be suitable for nicotine salt e-liquids when paired with an appropriate low-powered battery.

Their relatively tight draw and modest vapour output fit the same general MTL style commonly associated with nic salt pod systems.

The exact nicotine strength should still be chosen separately according to individual requirements.

eGo Thread Compatibility

EVOD-style tanks were designed around eGo-type connections, which were extremely common on older pen-style vape batteries.

Many eGo batteries also incorporate a 510 thread, giving them compatibility with a broad range of compact hardware.

The EVOD 2, for example, uses an eGo-threaded connection and is intended for standard eGo or EVOD-style batteries.

Always check the connection on your actual battery before ordering.

KangerTech EVOD Coil Compatibility

The EVOD family uses replaceable coil heads.

The exact coil depends on the version of the tank.

The EVOD 2 uses KangerTech bottom dual-coil heads, with 1.5Ω commonly supplied as standard.

KangerTech also used similar dual-coil heads across several older tanks, including certain Protank and Aerotank models.

That historical cross-compatibility can be useful, but you should still check the exact tank and coil before ordering.

Replaceable Coil vs Disposable Clearomiser

One of the easiest ways to choose between these tanks is to consider how much maintenance you want.

Replaceable-Coil EVOD

When the flavour or vapour begins to deteriorate:

  • Keep the tank
  • Remove the old coil
  • Install a new compatible coil
  • Refill and continue using it

Disposable CE4

When the coil reaches the end of its useful life:

  • Replace the complete clearomiser

Neither system is difficult.

The CE4 simply removes one extra maintenance step.

How to Fill a KangerTech EVOD Tank

EVOD-style clearomisers use bottom filling.

  1. Remove the tank from the battery.
  2. Hold the tank upside down.
  3. Unscrew the base.
  4. Add e-liquid along the inside wall.
  5. Avoid filling the central airflow tube.
  6. Reinstall the base.
  7. Wipe away any excess liquid.
  8. Reattach the tank to the battery.

The EVOD 2 follows this bottom-fill layout.

How to Fill a CE4 Clearomiser

CE4 clearomisers are generally filled from the top.

  1. Remove the mouthpiece.
  2. Tilt the clearomiser slightly.
  3. Add e-liquid down the inside edge.
  4. Avoid the central airflow tube.
  5. Refit the mouthpiece.
  6. Allow the wick time to absorb liquid before use.

Don't overfill the tank.

Priming a New KangerTech Coil

Whenever a fresh coil or clearomiser is filled for the first time, give the wick time to absorb e-liquid before applying power.

With an EVOD coil:

  • Install the fresh head
  • Fill the tank
  • Leave it standing for several minutes
  • Begin at a sensible low power level

With a CE4, the same principle applies after the initial fill.

Dry wicking material can burn if heated before it becomes properly saturated.

How Long Do KangerTech Coils Last?

There's no exact lifespan that applies to everybody.

Coil life depends on:

  • Frequency of use
  • E-liquid sweetness
  • E-liquid viscosity
  • Power level
  • Draw length
  • How well the wick remains saturated
  • How often the tank is allowed to run low

The clearest indication is usually a change in performance rather than a specific number of days.

When Should You Replace a KangerTech Coil?

Common signs include:

  • Burnt flavour
  • Weak flavour
  • Reduced vapour
  • Gurgling
  • Flooding
  • Darkened liquid
  • Poor or inconsistent heating

With an EVOD, replace the coil.

With a CE4, replace the complete clearomiser.

Why Does My EVOD Taste Burnt?

A burnt taste usually means the wick has become too dry or the coil has reached the end of its useful life.

Common causes include:

  • Using a fresh coil before it has soaked
  • Letting the liquid level get too low
  • Using excessive voltage or wattage
  • Taking repeated draws without allowing the wick to resaturate
  • Using very thick liquid
  • Continuing to use an old coil

Once the wick itself has scorched, replacing the coil is normally the only proper solution.

Why Is My KangerTech Tank Gurgling?

Gurgling usually means excess e-liquid has entered the coil or central airflow passage.

Potential causes include:

  • Overfilling
  • Flooding
  • An ageing coil
  • Liquid entering the centre tube while filling
  • Loose components
  • Very low power

A little condensation is normal.

Persistent liquid inside the airflow path is not.

Why Is My EVOD Tank Leaking?

Possible causes include:

  • Loose base
  • Worn seals
  • Incorrect coil installation
  • Flooded coil
  • Overfilling
  • Cracked tank section
  • E-liquid entering the airflow tube

Make sure every component is seated correctly before replacing parts unnecessarily.

How to Make KangerTech Coils Last Longer

Basic habits help:

  • Prime new coils properly.
  • Keep enough liquid in the tank.
  • Avoid very thick e-liquid where possible.
  • Don't apply excessive power.
  • Clean the tank periodically.
  • Avoid chain-vaping heavily.
  • Replace worn seals if required.
  • Change the coil once flavour becomes persistently poor.

These are relatively simple devices, so maintenance doesn't need to become complicated.

KangerTech Tanks vs Modern Pod Kits

Modern pod systems have largely replaced this style of clearomiser for new devices.

Even so, the basic idea isn't radically different.

KangerTech Clearomiser Modern Pod
Tank holds e-liquid Pod holds e-liquid
Replaceable or fixed coil Integrated or replaceable coil
Screws onto battery Usually magnetic push-fit
Pen-style design Usually compact rectangular design
Often bottom-fill Often side or top-fill
Fixed airflow common Adjustable airflow increasingly common

KangerTech tanks still make sense if you already own compatible hardware and simply want to keep it running.

Shop KangerTech Vape Tanks

Our KangerTech vape tank range keeps things decidedly old-school, with the EVOD, EVOD 2 and CE4 clearomiser formats providing simple refillable options for compatible pen-style and eGo batteries.

The EVOD and EVOD 2 give you the option of replacing the coil while retaining the tank, whereas the CE4 offers an even simpler disposable-clearomiser format.

They're compact, straightforward and designed around traditional MTL vaping rather than modern high-powered hardware.

If you've still got a reliable eGo or EVOD-style battery in service, these classic KangerTech tanks are an easy way to keep that setup going.
