The rigid outer casing helps protect the batteries from everyday knocks while keeping the cells separated from other loose items. More importantly, storing batteries inside a dedicated case helps prevent their terminals from accidentally coming into contact with conductive objects such as keys, coins or other metal items.
18650 batteries are commonly used in compatible vape devices and other rechargeable electronics, but they should be handled carefully when they're outside of a device.
