Introduction:

Choosing the right vape kit can be tricky with so many options on the market. The Vaporesso Xros 4 Mini and the Geekvape Sonder Q are two popular choices for compact, beginner-friendly pod systems. While both offer similar performance and portability, they cater to slightly different needs. Let’s break down their strengths and see which one makes it on our list of best vape kits for 2024.

Overview of the Kits:

Vaporesso Xros 4 Mini:

This device is a sleek, compact pod system with a 1000mAh battery . It utilises Vaporesso’s COREX 2.0 technology , enhancing flavour and prolonging pod lifespan. With a maximum vape pod capacity of 2ml and various resistance options, it offers decent flexibility. It provides adjustable airflow in the form of a sliding switch at the back of the device, making it suitable for both MTL (Mouth-to-Lung) and RDL (Restricted-direct-to-Lung) vaping.

Geekvape Sonder Q:

The Sonder Q also features a 1000mAh battery and comes equipped with a 0.8Ω pod . Much like the XROS pods it features a top fill design that makes it an absolute breeze to refill even while the pod is in the device. It also allows users to fine-tune their draw for either a tight MTL (mouth-to-lung) or a restricted direct lung hit. Despite its affordable price, the Sonder Q doesn't compromise on quality, offering excellent flavour and an intuitive design.

Performance:

In terms of performance, both kits deliver a satisfying vape but with notable differences. The Vaporesso Xros 4 Mini relies on COREX 2.0 mesh technology to boost flavour and pod longevity, making it a solid choice for flavour chasers. However we found in testing that the battery life can dwindle a lot quicker while using higher resistance pods compared to the Sonder Q.

The Geekvape Sonder Q, on the other hand, shines with its wattage control system that allows the 0.8Ω coil to provide rich, saturated flavour, for prolonged periods of time to maximise its 1000mAh battery. Its ease in delivering consistent vapour production throughout its battery span is a huge strong point in my opinion.

Price:

When it comes to price, the Geekvape Sonder Q is the clear winner. It typically retails for around £9.99 , (£8.99 here at UK Vape Scene) making it one of the most budget-friendly pod kits available to date. The affordable replacement pods (a pack of three costs around £6.99) add to its long-term value, especially for vapers on a budget.

In contrast, the Vaporesso Xros 4 Mini is priced higher, typically between £20 and £30 (£19.99 here at UK Vape Scene). While its build quality and flavour output are commendable, the higher price may be harder to justify, particularly when you can get similar performance from the far cheaper Sonder Q.

User Experience

The Vaporesso Xros 4 Mini is designed with simplicity in mind. It’s fully inhale-activated with no buttons or adjustable settings, making it perfect for users who prefer a straightforward, hassle-free device. It uses a simple method of displaying battery life via a tri-coloured LED denoting its battery percentage.

The Geekvape Sonder Q delivers a very similar user experience, with a similar LED indicator displaying battery percentage. The battery life is excellent, and it charges quickly via USB-C. Its low cost and high performance make it a standout, especially for users seeking high quality at an affordable price.

Vaporesso Xros 4 Mini Pros and Cons:

Pros:

  • Impressive build quality.
  • COREX 2.0 Pods offer fantastic performance.
  • Widest selection of pod resistances.

Cons:

  • Higher price point.
  • Increased power consumption.

Geekvape Sonder Q Pros and Cons:

Pros:

  • Unmatched value for any pod kit.
  • Great flavour reproduction.
  • Low power consumption allowing for prolonged vaping.

Cons:

  • Only one pod included with the kit.

Conclusion

While both the Vaporesso Xros 4 Mini and the Geekvape Sonder Q offer great performance, in a very similar way, the Geekvape Sonder Q edges out as the better overall choice. Mainly due to its price to value ratio that offers much of the same features as the Xros 4 while standing at half the price, The Vaporesso Xros 4 Mini is still a solid device, but for most vapers, the Sonder Q provides superior value.
